日本画像の国際的利用に関わる問題とＮＣＣのウェブガイド
研究や教育のために画像を国際的に利用する場合には国によって異なる規則や慣習が関係してくるが、画像の所在を確認し合法的に利用するための標準的な手順はいまだ確立されていない。北米日本研究資料調整協議会（ＮＣＣ）は、とりわけ出版に際して増大する画像利用ニーズに対応を迫られている学者の要望に応え、画像資料利用(ＩＵＰ)特別委員会を設置して、この問題に積極的に取り組んできた。ＮＣＣはＩＵＰガイドを作成し、世界中で利用できるようにウェブに公開した(http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~ncc/imageuse/index.html)。 報告では、2007年の調査により判明した現状、2008年の東京会議やウェブガイドを作成する中で分析・解明された課題について述べる。また、ウェブガイドを紹介する。
Issues in International Use of Japanese Images and NCC Web Guide
Use of images internationally involves different regulations and customs, and a standardized practice for locating and legally using images has not yet been established. In response to scholars' increasing needs to use images for research and teaching, in particular for publishing, the North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (NCC) has been actively tackling the image use issues through its Image Use Protocol (IUP) Task Force. NCC has developed an IUP guide which is now on its website and available worldwide (http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~ncc/imageuse/index.html).
In this presentation, I will briefly describe issues learned from the 2007 survey, and challenges analyzed and raised during the 2008 Tokyo conference and while developing the IUP guide. The IUP website and its resources will be fully introduced.
